Use and discharge of fireworks during the celebration of Diwali/Deepavali (Festival of Lights), October 22-24, 2022

Post Date:09/30/2022 10:13 a.m.

The Indian festival of Diwali or Deepavali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is traditionally celebrated with the use of California State Fire Marshal registered Safe and Sane fireworks. The use of approved fireworks in conjunction with this festival may occur on Saturday, October 22 through Monday, October 24, 2022, in the City of Folsom.

The Folsom Fire Department is asking the public to take the following precautions when using fireworks during the festival period:

  • Make sure the fireworks have the State Fire Marshal “Safe and Sane” seal
  • The use of fireworks for this celebration must be conducted under adult supervision at all times.
  • Have a bucket of water, sand, or garden hose available at firing site
  • Read all instructions before use
  • Never alter, modify, or enhance fireworks – use only in the manner intended
  • Make sure fireworks have proper clearance from flammable materials including dry grass and brush

The use of dangerous and illegal fireworks is still prohibited within all areas of the City of Folsom. Festival activities that require the closure of public streets and/or use of public facilities may require the issuance of either a Special Event permit or Block Party permit prior to the event date.  Please contact the City of Folsom Community Development Department Permit Counter at 50 Natoma Street, Folsom, or call 916-461-6201 for additional details regarding these permit requirements.

Please contact the Folsom Fire Department at FolsomFire@folsom.ca.us for further assistance.
