The City of Folsom is pleased to announce that Broder Family Homestead Park, 1215 Harvest Loop (off East Natoma Street), is now open to the public. Due to current public health directives that restrict gatherings, a grand opening and dedication ceremony has been postponed.

The park is located on property that was once part of the expansive Broder Family Ranch, which was established in the mid-1800s. The five-acre property for the park was generously gifted to the City by Vera Broder-Silberstein, who spent part of her childhood on the ranch in the 1930s and '40s. It was her wish that the park would honor the pioneering and ranching life of the Broder family and early California pioneers.

The family-friendly passive park includes a grove of 74 historic olive trees, a vineyard and orchard, covered picnic area, kiddie corral play area with farm animal sculptures, horseshoe pits, walks and pathways, and a raised platform area for future outdoor classroom use. Granite blocks and rock retaining walls from historic structures on the original Broder ranch were salvaged and reused for retaining walls and seat walls within the park.

Park visitors are asked to refrain from harvesting from the vineyard and orchard ' the grapevines and fruit trees are still in the process of establishing healthy root systems and new growth. Folsom Parks & Recreation is seeking community stewards or groups to assist with seasonal harvesting at the park; call 916-461-6684 for more information and to volunteer.
