Community Service Officers (CSOs) serve a vital role in the Folsom Police Department. 

Our CSOs are non-sworn members of the police department. They perform a variety of duties as part of their assignment, including, but not limited to:

  • Investigating criminal, non-criminal, and non-hazardous incidents not requiring the presence of a sworn officer
  • Assisting and completing crime scene investigations
  • Interviewing victims and witnesses and recording statements
  • Testifying in court
  • Receiving, recording, analyzing and storing property and evidence acquired by the Folsom Police Department for safekeeping and custody
  • Assisting the Community Crime Suppression Unit with camp postings and abatement
  • Providing and directing applicable service to those experiencing homelessness
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • No law enforcement experience required, but is preferred
  • Possession of a California driver's license
  • All qualified candidates will be required to satisfactorily complete the following trainings within the probationary period:
    • POST approved Community Service Officer Academy
    • CPR Certificate
    • In Service Officer Safety Tactics
    • Crime Scene Investigations Course
    • Cal-Photos and Cal-ID Operations
