Key Folsom roadways and bridges will be closed between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 12 when Folsom hosts the Stage 2 Individual Time Trial for the Amgen Tour of California, America’s largest cycling event.
While the race course will be open during peak commute hours, the following roads will be closed between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. –
Ø Rainbow Bridge and Folsom Lake Crossing closed
Ø Lake Natoma Crossing limited to one lane per direction
Ø Folsom-Auburn Rd limited to one southbound lane (no northbound traffic)
Ø East Natoma St closed between Folsom Lake Crossing and Blue Ravine
Ø Green Valley Rd closed between the County line and East Natoma St
Ø Riley St closed between Sutter St and Leidesdorff St in the Historic District
The 12.5-mile route starts on Sutter Street, and continues onto Riley, across the Rainbow Bridge, north on Folsom Auburn Road, across Folsom Lake Crossing to East Natoma and then to Green Valley road. Riders will make a 180-degree turn on Green Valley near the county line and return over the same route to finish on Leidesdorff Street in Historic Folsom.
“Hosting the world’s top professional cyclists for the Individual Trial is an exciting opportunity for our community,” said City Manager Evert Palmer. “While we know the event will inconvenience some motorists, we believe the one-day traffic impacts are worth the opportunity to showcase our community before a world-wide television audience and the thousands of cycling fans who will visit our community on race day.”.
Note: Motorists who have questions about traffic or alternate routes may call (916) 608-6222 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on race day. City staff will answer questions and provide race related traffic information.
Stage 2 Time Trial Times:
Ø Lifestyle Festival open from 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Ø Amateurs race begins at 10 a.m. (50 riders, 30 second interval starts)
Ø Professional Women begin at 11:10 a.m. (25 riders, one-minute interval starts)
Ø Professional Men begin at 1:05 p.m. (128 riders, one-minute interval starts)
Ø Post-race awards ceremony at 3:55 p.m.
Folsom’s Historic District is the focal point for the race, and City officials expect 10,000 people or more to gather there to view the start and finish and participate in the festival. Attendees may take Light Rail to Historic Folsom, or walk or ride bikes from the following parking locations:
Ø Walmart, Kohl’s and Lembi Park on Riley St
Ø Negro Bar State Park on Greenback Lane ($5 fee helps support California State Parks)
Ø Folsom Civic Center (City Hall, Library, Rodeo Arena)
Ø On-street parking on public streets south of Natoma St (park legally and be considerate of residents and businesses)
Ø The vacant lot on Blue Ravine across from Manseau (easy access to view race on East Natoma & Green Valley)
ADA parking will be available behind Cloud’s and the Sutter Street Steakhouse (enter off Riley/Greenback Lane or Scott Street prior to 9 a.m.
Please Note: Event parking will NOT be allowed on Historic District residential streets between Natoma and Figueroa. Parking enforcement will occur on race day.
Time Trial Viewing Locations
Ø Either side of Rainbow Bridge (but not on it for safety reasons)
Ø Folsom Lake Crossing Bridge (lots of room, safe and beautiful)
Ø Lake Natoma Crossing (upstream side)
Ø Turn-around on Green Valley Road near County Line
Ø East Natoma between Folsom Lake Crossing and Green Valley roads
