Folsom Police Partner with Local Businesses to Stop Catalytic Converter Thefts

Post Date:08/20/2021 9:39 a.m.
To deter would-be thieves and track stolen catalytic converters, the Folsom Police Department has teamed up with local auto repair shops for a new Etch and Catch anti-theft program.

Catalytic converters reduce exhaust emissions from an engine and nearly every vehicle has one. They are also extremely expensive to replace. Thieves target catalytic converters for this very reason–they contain valuable precious metals.
The Folsom Police Department has partnered with Folsom auto repair shops for its Etch and Catch program. The Etch and Catch partners will etch your vehicle's license plate number onto your catalytic converter for free. This identifying information acts as a deterrent to thieves, and if a catalytic converter is stolen, there is a way to identify the owner.
