Folsom City Manager Elaine Andersen announced Thomas M. Gruneisen has been selected as the Folsom Public Library Director, effective September 26.

Gruneisen brings 12 years of library management and operations to the position, including 10 years at the Sacramento Public Library, where he most recently served as the Regional Systems Supervisor responsible for planning and directing the operations of four branch libraries, including circulation, program delivery, public engagement, customer service, and administrative and staff performance. He also managed the Orangevale and Fair Oaks branches of the Sacramento Public Library.

His recent accomplishments include expanding the Library of Things to the Fair Oaks branch, leading the Read and Feed Teaching & Demonstration Garden at the Colonial Heights branch, and serving as co-chair for Sacramento Technology & Creation Steering Committee.

“Thomas is an experienced library professional who is well-suited to lead the Folsom Public Library and serve the Folsom community,” said City Manager Elaine Andersen. “His expertise is comprehensive, and his enthusiasm is contagious.”

Gruneisen will manage the Folsom Public Library and its collection of over 97,000 items and 27 public access computers housed in a 24,000 sq. ft. building. He will also oversee the many informative and entertaining programs the Folsom Public Library offers for children, teens, and adults, including Book Clubs, an ESL club, entrepreneurship classes, technology programs, a Summer Reading Program, story times, and more.

“The opportunity and dynamism that comes from leading a focused, immediately responsive public library such as Folsom, which has stayed so attuned and adaptive to its community’s needs, is what drew me to this position,” Gruneisen said. “In the quality of its collection, dedication to youth programming and teen volunteerism, and support for adults, the Folsom Public Library truly reflects the needs of its community. I am proud to continue this quality of service as its next director.”

Gruneisen holds an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in legal studies and political science and a master’s degree in library and information science from San José State University. Before beginning his career in librarianship, Gruneisen served as a supervisor for the University of California, Berkeley’s Department of Information Services and Technology.

The Folsom Public Library’s mission is to inspire lifelong learning, enrich lives, and connect our diverse community. For more information, visit the Folsom Public Library website or call 916-461-6130.
