The Code Enforcement Division of the Community Development Department is committed to the important, and sometimes difficult, task of protecting and promoting the high quality of life enjoyed by those who live, work, and play in the City of Folsom. Code Enforcement’s role is to enforce the Folsom Municipal Code (FMC) with violations that range from abandoned inoperative vehicles, storage of RVs, boats and utility trailers, yard parking, junk and debris, property maintenance/weeds, encroachments in the public right-of-way, solid waste containers in plain view, home occupations, illegal signs, work without a permit, homeless camps, graffiti abatement and excessive noise, and more.

Our goal is to gain compliance with established rules and regulations to protect public health, safety, and general welfare, and maintain the unique quality of life we enjoy in Folsom. We hope that you will do your part to help us achieve this goal together.

Enforcement through Education

Many code cases result from residents and business owners who unknowingly violate the rules and regulations adopted in the FMC. Educating the community is one of the best ways the city can prevent violations from occurring and reoccurring. Code Enforcement seeks opportunities to implement ideas and concepts that educate the public on common code violations, such as the use of public information bulletins and alerts through social media. Education is often considered the first step in prevention, and it will often garner more favorable results.

Code Enforcement Processing Steps

This process is intended to inform and guide the public on the steps taken by Code Enforcement staff to resolve code violations. The process includes five basic steps.

In most cases, Code Enforcement staff will be the primary point of contact throughout the process. However, if the violation requires a building permit, a project planner or permit technician will also be assigned to the case. Code Enforcement staff will remain engaged until the permit is finalized by a building inspector.
