Californians produce nearly six million tons of food waste each year, which accounts for 15-20% of all landfilled material in the state.

Luckily, organic material such as food waste and food-soiled paper are readily available to be converted into finished products like mulch and compost. Compost provides numerous direct and indirect benefits for soil and air quality, water retention rates, carbon sequestration, and energy use.
