The City of Folsom is committed to providing safe, reliable, and high-quality waste and recycling services that comply with state mandates and preserve our city’s distinctive natural environment and excellent quality of life.

As part of this effort, the city’s new business and apartment community organics program began in March. The city’s organics recycling program for single-family homes starts July 1. City residents in single-family homes must bag food and food-soiled paper into compostable or clear plastic bags and place it in the green bin (currently used for yard waste). Green bins will be serviced weekly, along with garbage. Blue bin recycling (bottles, cans, paper products) will continue to be serviced every other week.

State law now requires all businesses and residents to recycle organic waste. If you do not currently have all three cans at your home (gray trash, blue recycle, and green organics) you will automatically receive them after the program starts.

GREEN BIN APPROVED

✓ All food scraps (meat, bones, cheese, bread, pasta, fruit, vegetables, eggshells)

✓ Food-soiled paper (napkins, coffee filters, tea bags)

✓ Yard waste (do not bag plant trimmings)

✓ Wood scraps

✓ Bag food scraps and food soiled paper in any compostable or clear plastic bags

Please place green bins curbside by 6 a.m. on your service day, three feet from your gray trash bins or other obstacles.
