Save the Trees, Stress the Lawn!

Post Date:07/14/2022
Help your trees stay healthy by giving them regular, deep, and slow watering. Even under water use restrictions, both the State of California and the City of Folsom recognize the importance of keeping your trees watered to help them survive and provide exemptions for watering your trees.

During the hot summer months, many of our trees are suffering from drought stress— typical signs to look for are wilting leaves, leaves yellowing or early showing of fall colors, leaf scorching (showing a brown or burned appearance), or defoliating trees that begin to lose their leaves from the top and branch ends. If your trees are showing any of these symptoms, it’s time for a nice slow and deep watering.
Besides regular watering, spreading natural woodchip mulch around the base of your trees is one of the best ways to help your tree retain moisture. Residents can pick up free mulch from behind City Hall at 50 Natoma Street and at the Hinkle Creek Nature Trail, next to Fire Station 36 at 9700 Oak Avenue Parkway.
