Carving Jack-o’-lanterns for Halloween is a treasured tradition that leaves a mess of slimy pulp, seeds, and cutouts. If roasting the seeds and making puree with the pulp isn’t your thing, then toss them in your green organics bin. After its night aglow, toss your Jack-o’-lantern in your green organics bin or bury it in your garden—it provides great nutrients to your soil. Remember to remove candles and any decorations. Painted or artificial pumpkins are considered trash and must be tossed in your gray bin. For questions, email
