Citizens Group Submits Signatures To Place ‘Folsom Residents Public Safety And Quality Of Life Act’ On November Ballot

Post Date:05/06/2024 1:15 p.m.

On April 30, a citizen-led community group submitted signatures to the City of Folsom to place a special sales tax on the November 2024 ballot. The initiative, titled the “Folsom Residents Public Safety and Quality of Life Act,” seeks to increase the sales tax of taxable merchandise sold at retail stores in the city by one percent (i.e., one cent of every dollar spent).

The initiative proposes a special sales tax, from which the revenue would remain in Folsom and be deposited into a special city account separate from the general fund for the city to use only for the following specific purposes:

  • Police and crime reduction
  • Fire, rescue, and emergency services
  • Parks, recreation facilities, and trails
  • Traffic mitigation and environmental water quality
  • Community enhancement and economic development
  • Major capital improvement projects

The signatures were submitted to the City of Folsom City Clerk’s Department for preliminary review. The City Clerk’s Department then submitted the petition to the Sacramento County Voter Registration and Elections Office for signature verification.

If the County Voter Registration and Elections Office certifies that the initiative qualifies for placement on the November ballot, the City Council will take action to formally place the measure on the November 2024 election ballot for Folsom voters to decide.
